ACAES got its start by organizing conferences, initially in the US in the early 1980s, and later in Asia, beginning with events in Hong Kong and Wuhan, China in 1987. Over the ensuing decades, the tally reached ten conferences in the US, six in China, two each in Japan and Thailand, and one each in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, and Malaysia.

The early gatherings of American and Asian economists were pathbreaking. Nowadays, however, international conferences in Asia are commonplace. In view of the abundance of activity, our current strategy is to coordinate with conference conveners who have an interest in developing special issues of the Journal of Asian Economics. If this seems like a potential fit for your organization, please contact us.
